Andy O'Hare BBC Hereford & Worcester writes:
(26th Mar 2010 Worcester Arts Workshop)
There was complete and utter quality of the highest order to follow from the supremely polished Pershore outfit The Cohen Brothers and their sparkling numbers like Caledonia, Moving On and The Roof Blew Off.

Words fail me every time I see these guys as they're completely different in terms of sound and sheer musicianship from just about any other outfit doing the rounds.

If you've got the chance to hear this lot in the next month or so you should grab it quick as once again the general consensus was that the Jools Crooke-fronted five-piece deserve a far far bigger stage - like SXSW!

The 2010 Cohen Brothers line-up is Sean (guitar), Julian(keys/voc), Dave (drums), & Pete (elec perc), Brian (bass) ... and here with Jenny Hallam on bvox

The guys grew up listening to late night BBC radio sessions hosted by Bob Harris, John Peel and Alexis Korner, which influenced them to form their own bands, to play the music they loved ..... and often catching the late night coach into London to catch rare gigs from Little Feat, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Kokomo , Dr John, Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits, Pat Metheny, Jackson Browne, Miles Davies, Steve Winwood & Traffic .... the list goes on !

Music fans through & through, this love of music has never left them - and in 2008 they picked up where they left off & formed The Cohen Brothers, and began working on new album "Moving On".

In spring 2009, with producer John Rivers (whose credits include Ocean Colour Scene, Specials-Ghost Town) they recorded a bunch of original songs and three undiscovered gems from 70's songwriters Bobby Charles, Jesse Winchester & the UK's own blue-eyed soul boy, Jess Roden).

The band are now out playing the album and much more around pubs, clubs & festivals in Worcestershire and Warwickshire. In addition to their own original songs, the Cohens live set includes covers from Steve Winwood, Traffic, Eric Clapton, Marc Cohn, Bruce Cockburn, Nick Drake, & Robin Trower.

In Autumn 2009 the band were invited to play a live session on BBC Hereford & Worcester - which was subsequently awarded one of their "Top 10 sessions of 2009".

During 2009, the band's live highlights included: - Worcester Music Festival - The West Fest (in Malvern) - The Pyramid Party (in Herefordshire) - The Assembly (supporting UK leading Steely Dan tribute, Nearly Dan)

Looking ahead to 2010, as well as playing festivals in Worcestershire and Herefordshire the band is widening its audience and seeking new venues and festivals. It would be fantastic to play for you sometime soon !

Playing a mix of original material and some favorite covers, the Cohen's have independently funded & released their new CD "Moving On" available now exclusively at gigs.

COX'S YARD IN STRATFORD-UPON-AVON SAY:
Superb Soul/Blues/Jazz/American fusion band. Top class musicians who really let rip with a great sound. A selection of covers & originals with vocalist Julian has a unique soul voice not disimilar to the legendary Stevie Winwood... & he also plays the keyboard !! Some definite shades of Traffic in there !

THE LAMB IN MALVERN SAY: Thanks for playing the Lamb tonight. Comments included 'best band ever' and 'best guitarist ever heard live'. Truly excellent set and can't wait to hear you again. Thanks also for professionlism in the logistics -a pleasure to work with.
